Full Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kunming (D)
Upon arrival at Kunming Airport, students will be greeted by the WildChina team, who will assist with the transfer to the hotel. Along the way, students will enjoy welcome snacks and fruit as they get their first glimpse of Yunnan. After checking in at the Atour Hotel, this first day allows students to settle into the new environment and rest before the program begins. Overnight in Kunming.
Day 2: Kunming in Full Color (B, L, D)
After breakfast, students will visit Shuncheng Mosque to learn about local Muslim heritage, followed by a Chinese Kung Fu class at Green Lake Park, where they will pick up the basics of this traditional martial art in a beautiful outdoor setting.
After a halal lunch, the group will head to the Yunnan Ethnic Village, home to a rich mix of ethnic minority cultures found across the province. Students will take part in a Wa Mao craft activity, creating their own traditional clay figurines, before finishing the day with a scavenger hunt through Kunming Old Street, complete with guided observation tasks and group challenges.
In the evening, the group will return to the hotel for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Market Day and Junior Chefs (B, L, D)
The morning begins with a visit to Jinniu Street Mosque. After lunch, students will head to Zhuanxin Market to choose their own ingredients for the cooking challenge ahead.
The group then transfers to a campsite for team-building activities, followed by the MasterChef Cooking Challenge, where teams work together to prepare their own dishes from the ingredients they selected. Dinner is enjoyed at the campsite before the group returns to Kunming for the night.
Day 4: On to Ancient Dali (B, L, D)
Before leaving Kunming, students pay a final visit to Shuncheng Mosque. The group then boards a high-speed train to Dali, a scenic journey of about two hours.
In the afternoon, students will discover the Dongba script, one of the world's last surviving pictographic writing systems, and take part in a traditional paper-making workshop, crafting their own sheet of handmade Dongba paper using techniques passed down through generations of the Naxi people.
After dinner, students check in at the Dali hotel and prepare for tomorrow's local school visit.
Day 5: Connection and Living Heritage (B, L, D)
The morning is dedicated to a local school visit and exchange, where students observe real classroom lessons and take part in shared activities with local students their own age — a unique opportunity to learn about education in China, share their own perspectives, and build friendships that bridge cultures.
After lunch, the group visits Ximen Mosque before heading to Xizhou Old Town, home to a local intangible cultural heritage museum. Here, students will learn about the intricate art of Jiama woodblock printing, a centuries-old technique, and gain insight into the importance of preserving cultural traditions in a rapidly changing world.
Day 6: Indigo and the Journey Back (B, L, D)
After breakfast, students visit Ximen Mosque once more before taking part in a traditional Dali tie-dye activity, creating their own handmade indigo-dyed piece to bring home as a keepsake.
Following lunch, the group returns to Kunming by high-speed train, a journey of about two and a half hours, and checks in at the hotel. In the evening, students enjoy dinner followed by free time to explore a local market.
Day 7: Departure (B)
After breakfast, students will pack their luggage and check out of the hotel. They will then be transferred to Kunming Airport for their departure flight home. As they leave Yunnan, they will take with them not only a deeper understanding of tradition and craft but also unforgettable memories of cultural exchange and new friendships made during the trip.
